The substance misuse field has never been more dynamic and open to innovative practice, as it responds to the challenges posed by the levels of problematic substance misuse nationally and the demands of the government's 10-year drug strategy. The role of the Clinician, in terms of the need to provide effective, appropriate and accessible treatment services, is key to the successful implementation of that strategy.

In Calderdale and Kirklees there has been a considerable investment in planning and resources, developing comprehensive treatment services at both specialist and primary levels of care. In support of this, there has been a strong commitment to enhancing the development of substance misuse treatment in shared care, across both Calderdale and Kirklees.

We are looking for Clinicians with at least two years' experience in the clinical management of problematic substance use in a specialist role, to undertake the clinical lead positions for substance misuse at both primary and specialist tiers of service in Calderdale and Kirklees. These are discrete positions and the successful candidates will be employed respectively by Calderdale and North Kirklees PCTs.

The posts will comprise a number of strands of clinical leadership, including treatment protocols, supervision, training and clinical audit, direct clinical work and input into the strategic development of services locally. The posts will be supported by a "Continuing Professional Development Plan", agreed with the post holders and their respective employers.

For informal enquiries in the first instance please contact: Martin McGroarty, Substance Misuse Commissioning Officer at Calderdale PCT on 01422 397361 or Holly Key, Substance Misuse Commissioning Officer at North Kirklees PCT on 01274 865604.

Closing date for both posts: 12 noon, Friday 4 October 2002
