Wanted, a GP with a special interest in substance misuse to work 2 sessions a week at HM Prison Bristol. The work would mainly involve assessing substance misusing inmates the day after they come into prison and prescribing appropriate detox treatment. Detailed protocols are in place.

You would be supported by 4 detox nurses and a dual diagnosis nurse. The prison also has its full quota of drug councillors (called CARAT workers in prison) and programs for substance misusers.

Dr Peter Kent looks after the health care of substance misusers at Bristol Prison. He has recently also started to work at a local specialist drug and alcohol service to increase his experience and to help build links with community treatment providers. This has resulted in our present requirement.
