SMMGP works in Partnership with the National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse (NTA), The Royal College of GPs (RCGP) and Bolton Salford and Trafford Mental Health NHS Trust who are the employing organisation.

The role of the Adviser will be to encourage and facilitate the role of primary care in the treatment of drug users and enhance the development of shared care arrangements for the treatment of drug users. The Adviser will provide strategic and practical advice to Primary Care Organisations (PCOs), GPs, Drug Action Teams (DATs) and local service providers concerning the appropriate role of primary care in the treatment of drug misuse.

The Adviser will:

  • Need to be highly experienced and have relevant knowledge about primary care based services.
  • Be highly motivated and capable of working under their own initiative.
  • Have a good knowledge of the Treatment and care of drug users.
  • Have well developed communication and presentation skills.
  • Have excellent networking, team working and organisational skills.

This is an England-wide project and the Adviser will cover London and the South East. Secondments from existing NHS services will be encouraged. Working from home is a possibility, though office space will be available.
