Substance Misuse Advisers

NOTE: THIS ADVERT IS NO LONGER VALID!

Hours: Up to 6 days (plus training)

The Healthcare Commission exists to promote improvement in the quality of both the NHS and independent healthcare in England and Wales. We aim to do this by becoming an authoritative and trusted source of information and using that information to drive improvement.

An exciting training and development opportunity - do you have recent experience in the substance misuse sector? The National Treatment Agency (Substance Misuse) (NTA) and the Healthcare Commission are working in partnership to review substance misuse treatment systems and services, starting with community prescribing and care planning and coordination. A small staff team, supported by advisers, will lead reviews. We are now inviting applications for the adviser roles from people with a range of backgrounds, including clinicians, practitioners, service users/carers, managers and commissioners.

As someone with experience in the substance misuse field, and with an understanding of change/organisational management, you will be trained to support the work of the core team in reviewing, advising on information, protocols and key document reviews, and supporting them in observation, facilitation and interviewing during site visits.

We are looking to recruit a pool of individuals to support the process of improvement reviews. This will involve a commitment of up to six days (plus training) for which your organisation will be paid on a replacement cost basis for your secondment (or, if self employed, you will be paid on a day rate contract). Separate arrangements for payment will be made for service users/carers. Successful applicants will be asked to attend an assessment centre in London.

The NTA and Healthcare Commission are committed to recruiting and supporting service users and carers to a full role in the review of substance misuse services. Recognising that some service users and carers may not have had the opportunity to develop the skills listed in the job description, the NTA and Healthcare Commission will take this into consideration during the selection process.
