The Royal College of General Practitioners Substance Misuse Unit supports continuing professional development of primary care practitioners and has developed a two part national training and development programme at Certificate level. This multi-disciplinary course if aimed at primary care health providers wishing to develop their skills and expertise in primary care substance misuse management from generalist through to Intermediate level.
The Substance Misuse Unit now seeks to recruit a Clinical Director for the project contracted for 2 days per week.
We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking GP with significant experience in the field of Substance Misuse and extensive knowledge of the RCGP Certificate Course.
The role is high profile and to sustain the success of the project and develop into new areas the candidate will need to commit energy, a sustainable drive to innovate and strong leadership.
As Director of the project you will work closely with the project manager and the administrative team to ensure the ongoing development of the Substance Misuse Unit and its core business - delivery of the certificate programme, Parts One and Two.
The role incorporates the line management and programme steer of an established Regional Lead network (9 full time equivalent posts), Nurse lead, Pharmacy Lead, Academic Lead all of whom work together to ensure adequate supervision and support to course tutors.
As Director you will chair the National Expert Advisory Group whose members oversee the work of the Unit and offer external performance monitoring. Together with the Project Manager you will take responsibility for the annual project plan and for assuring academic and financial probity.
You will be accountable to the Chair of the RCGP Education Network and supported by an administrative team (Based in London) In addition you will be expected to lead two monthly Executive Committee Meetings and twice yearly NEAG meetings and participate in the College Governance meetings two monthly.
Along with the Units' small Executive Team you will take responsibility for ensuring that the whole training programme is delivered in accordance with the RCGP's academic and quality standards and that it responds to the challenging targets associated with the substance misuse field.
The Director will work proactively with the College to ensure where possible the Unit's aims and objectives are aligned with the RCGP's own strategic development plan.
Leadership, communication, partnership working and liaison skills are vital as is an understanding of the wider political context of the substance misuse and governance fields. An up to date knowledge of public health and primary care priorities in the light of recent Government white papers would be beneficial.
This is a contracted piece of work with remuneration at Associate Director Pay Scale The position will be offered for one year in the first instance though further funding is being sought to extend this.
