Job title: Clinical Lead for RCGP Certificate in Detection, Diagnosis and Management of Hepatitis B and C in Primary Care
Fee: An annual consultancy fee of £10,000 is payable
Duration: The position will be offered for one year in the first instance and it is intended that this training programme becomes self financing after that time.
The Royal College of General Practitioners Substance Misuse Unit (RCGP SMU) supports continuing professional development of primary care practitioners and has developed a suite of training and development programme at certificate level. These multi-disciplinary courses are aimed at primary care health providers wishing to develop their skills and expertise from generalist through to intermediate level.
The SMU now seeks to recruit a Clinical Lead for a new course, the RCGP Certificate in the detection, diagnosis and management of hepatitis B and C in primary care. The development of this course will be over seen by the Health Protection Agency with funding provided by Department of Health.
The course will consist of 2 parts:
The hepatitis B and C lead will be a member and become the hepatitis lead of the RCGP Sex, Drugs and HIV Group and be supported by the RCGP SMU Executive Committee to provide clinical input to the programme and review and maintain the content including the quality assurance of the Certificate as an RCGP approved educational product.
Dynamic, forward-thinking GPs, or nurses with experience in the field of hepatitis B and C detection and treatment who are able to commit energy and innovative practice in primary care are required by the College to direct, influence and contribute to the ongoing development of the hepatitis B and C Certificate.
The hepatitis B and C Lead will work with the SMU Executive Committee, the SDHIVG, SMMGP hepatitis B and C working party to ensure that the whole training programme responds to meets the changing needs of health care professionals. Leadership, communication and liaison skills are vital and an understanding of the wider political context of the substance misuse and governance fields is also essential.
You will be accountable to the Director of the Substance Misuse Unit and supported by a full time coordinator (based in London). In addition you will be expected to attend all advisory groups for the certificate, quarterly Executive Committee Meetings, held alternately in London and York, and a Clinical Leads Away Day held once a year in York.
In view of the responsibilities involved an annual consultancy fee of £10,000 is payable. The position will be offered for one year in the first instance and it is intended that this training programme becomes self financing after that time. This is open to job share applicants.
