Government/Policy

	Beckley Foundation Drug Policy Programme (BFDPP) "The Beckley Foundation Drug Policy Programme (BFDPP) aims to promote objective debate on the effectiveness, direction and content of drug policies at national and international level. This non-governmental initiative brings together senior policymakers, leading academics and practitioners to assess the latest evidence of drug policy effectiveness in a spirit of objectivity and open debate. It does this through a discussion forum, an international "non-governmental organisation (NGO) consortium", an academic think tank, and a series of meetings and seminars. This web site provides access to reports and briefing papers prepared by the BFDPP, as well as information on relevant events and seminars. It also hosts a forum for invited guests to discuss drug policy dilemmas facing policy makers around the world."
	DANOS (Drugs & Alcohol National Occupational Standards) "This site provides information, advice and guidance on using the Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards (DANOS) to improve services to substance users. National Occupational Standards can be used for a wide range of purposes throughout the human resource management and development cycle, as well as to support partnership development, quality assurance and the development of organisational culture."
	Department of Health "The aim of the Department of Health is to improve the health and well-being of people in England. This site gives you the latest news and information about the Department and our work. It also offers you easy access to the wide range of publications, policy and guidance we produce."
	DMIS (Drug Misuse Information in Scotland) "The Drug Misuse Information in Scotland site provides information, statistics and research relating to the implementation of the Scottish Drug Misuse Information Strategy. Our target users are policy makers, professionals, researchers, employers and the wider community."

	National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse (NTA) "The National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse is the new special health authority, established by government in 2001, with a remit to increase the availability, capacity and effectiveness of treatment for substance misuse in England. The NTA is working with central government, Drug Action Teams, service providers and commissioners, users and carers, research, training and academic institutions to improve the commissioning of drug treatment services, promote evidence-based practice, and improve the performance of treatment providers and commissioners."

	Alcohol Concern "We are a national agency on alcohol misuse. We work both to reduce the costs of alcohol misuse and to develop the range and quality of helping services available to problem drinkers and their families throughout England and Wales."
	Association of Nurses in Substance Abuse (ANSA) "ANSA welcomes all professionals who work in the area of substance abuse. As a membership organisation, ANSA members elect a national coordinating committee to represent their interests and to ensure the smooth running of the organisation. ANSA acts as an advisory service to health and social care bodies and institutions, imparting specialist information on drug and alcohol related issues to the government and a number of advisory committees. ANSA activities include: local one and two day conferences and training events, a three-day annual national conference, regular branch meetings with speakers, discussions and social events throughout the UK. "
	Coretext: The Buprenorphine Bibliography "The new website is an up to date, comprehensive, searchable database of International papers and reports, most with an abstract, covering substance abuse treatment, analgesia, veterinary medicine, preclinical safety and efficacy."
	DS Daily "DS Daily is a new daily drug and alcohol news service launched by DrugScope as part of their core commitment to the provision and dissemination of up to date information and in support of their role as a membership organisation for the sector. The service will operate every weekday, plus you can subscribe to a weekly e-mail which will provide you with a summary of the week's news." See also DrugScope.
	Daily Dose "Daily Dose, launched in January 2001 by Wired In, is a unique information portal on substance use and misuse. The portal provides links to to a range of content from around the world that focuses primarily on the prevention, management and overcoming of substance use problems. This content is obtained from governments, specialist organisations, NGOs, the popular media, and 'voices' in the community."
	Drink & Drugs News (DDN) "Drink and Drugs News (DDN) is the fortnightly magazine for all professionals in the drug and alcohol field. DDN provides news, features, research, and the latest thinking in the field in an attractive and convenient format. With thriving comments and letters pages, the magazine has become the place where people working with substance misuse have their say - and know it will be read. Informative and inclusive, each edition of DDN signposts readers to more information and resources, and it is relied on as the regular update and networking tool." 	Drug & Alcohol Findings Drug & Alcohol Findings bridges the divide between research on the effectiveness of responses to drug and alcohol problems and the practitioners who provide those interventions, with a focus on UK-relevant research. The project aims to encapsulate the studies' findings, set them in context and to explore the implications for practice.
	DrugScope (formerly ISDD & SCODA) "DrugScope has been created through the merger of the UK's foremost drug information and policy organisations: the Institute for the Study of Drug Dependence (ISDD) and the Standing Conference on Drug Abuse (SCODA) - two charities with a total of sixty years in the national and international drugs field. DrugScope is one of the UK's leading centres of expertise on drugs. Our aim is to inform policy development and reduce drug-related risk. We provide quality drug information, promote effective responses to drug taking, undertake research at local, national and international levels, advise on policy-making, encourage informed debate and speak for our members working on the ground." 	exchangesupplies.org "The exchangesupplies.org website has over 1,000 pages of information for practitioners and drug users. Publications available in full on the site include the methadone handbook and the methadone briefing - definitive guides to methadone treatment for users and providers of prescribing services. The site also has many other publications and comprehensive archives for the National Drug Treatment Conference."
	Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) "The Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) is the professional body of practitioners working with people with substance use problems. FDAP is open to everyone working in the field. FDAP provides advice, training and support to practitioners, as well as promoting and enforcing guidelines for ethical practice and providing a 'gold standard' accreditation scheme. FDAP also provides policy advice to NTA and other agencies on matters relating to workforce development and professional practice." See also Drink & Drugs News (DDN).
	Film Exchange on Alcohol & Drugs (FEAD) "FEAD is an online resource that brings short video presentations from leading figures in the alcohol and drugs field direct to your screen. The contributors cover a range of topics honestly and directly, including: achievements, problem areas, and reflections on the field's history."
	HealthcarePromotions.co.uk "HealthcarePromotions.co.uk allows healthcare professionals free and easy access to over 600 health promotion leaflets, posters and factsheets on over 60 health areas. All the information is from UK based sources including Patient.co.uk, Department of Health, NHS choices and national charities. The website also includes a calendar highlighting national campaigns to enable practices to tie in their own health promotion activity with national projects and the site is also linking up with charities to promote their awareness campaigns."
	National Substance Misuse Non-Medical Prescribing Forum "The National Substance Misuse Non-Medical Prescribing Forum is a peer support network for nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals working in the substance misuse field who have an interest in working towards or are practicing as non-medical prescribers."
	National Organisation on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - UK (NOFAS-UK) "The National Organisation on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - UK (NOFAS-UK) is dedicated to eliminating birth defects caused by alcohol consumption during pregnancy and to improving the quality of life for children, adults, families, careres and communities affected by Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD)."
	SCAN (Special Clinical Addictions Network) "The Specialist Clinical Addiction Network (SCAN) is a national network for UK addiction specialists. In the first instance this includes Consultant Psychiatrists, Specialists Registrars and Associate Specialists who work in the field of addiction. SCAN's main aim is to provide support and promote networking to enable specialists to maximise treatment effectiveness."
	Substance Misuse .Net "A portal for news on drug and alcohol misuse; opinion, professional reports, resources, and features; personal stories from those with a substance misuse problem; customised content for the general public, practitioners, and problem users; community discussion forums." This site is being developed by the editors of Daily Dose.
	Substance Misuse Skills Consortium "The Substance Misuse Skills Consortium is an independent, sector-led initiative to harness the ideas, energy and talent within the substance misuse treatment field, to maximise the ability of the workforce, and to help more drug and alcohol misusers recover."
	Turning Point "Turning Point is the UK's leading social care organisation. Our expertise across a broad range of areas means we can provide services directly to people with multiple issues that other organisations can find difficult to support. Our work across substance misuse, mental health, learning disability, employment and young people's support has led us to develop approaches that tackle people's whole needs. We pride ourselves on addressing wider issues of health and social disadvantage."

Campaigning Organisations

	The Federation "Championing equalities and diversity within the drugs, criminal justice, mental health and related areas. The Federation is a membership organisation and national charity, providing support to BME communities and professionals within the Health and Social Care fields. In addition to the direct support offered to professionals, The Federation also play an important role providing a voice on behalf of BME communities to agencies, commissioners, policy makers and key government departments by informing the implementation of the UK's 10 year drug strategy from a culturally sensitive perspective. We aim to ensure the widest possible dissemination of knowledge and information on all issues related to drugs and alcohol, to professionals, drug users, carers and their communities. Through our regular members' meetings, training and consultation events, we ensure that our members' views, ideas and concerns are fed back into the decision making process, and incorporated into emerging policy, provision and practice."
	HCV Action "The HCV Action group is a non-profit organisation of healthcare professionals with a remit to explore best practice in the awareness, diagnosis and management of hepatitis C in the United Kingdom. We strive to achieve our mission by focusing actions on disease awareness, best practice and professional education."
	Re-Solv "The society for the prevention of solvent and volatile substance abuse. This site contains information for anyone concerned about VSA This is sometimes also referred to as inhalant abuse, sniffing or glue sniffing. Street terms include 'tooting' and 'huffing'. Site includes factsheets, volatile substance abuse mortality figures, why people misuse solvents, gas fuels, adhesives, aerosols, fire extinguishers, legislation relating to volatile substance abuse, advice for parents, information for retailers about the sale of potentially products which could be used for sniffing. Publications and videos about solvent abuse."
	Release "Release is the national centre of expertise on drugs and drugs law - providing free and confidential specialist advice to the public and professionals. Release also campaigns for changes to UK drug policy to bring about a fairer and more compassionate legal framework to manage drug use in our society."

	UKHRA (United Kingdom Harm Reduction Alliance) "The UKHRA is a campaigning coalition of drug users, health and social care workers, criminal justice workers and educationalists that aims to put public health and human rights at the centre of drug treatment and service provision for drug users. "

	Adfam "Adfam is a national charity working with families affected by drugs and alcohol. They provide a range of publications and resources for families about substances and criminal justice and operate an online message board and database of local support groups that helps families hear about and talk to people who understand their situation. Adfam also runs direct support services at London prisons for families of prisoners with drug problems that need to talk about prison and drugs."
	Black Poppy "Black Poppy is an is a non profit making drug user organisation that creates and produces the drug user's health and lifestyle magazine, Black Poppy. Our e-zine covers all the best bits from our magazine - articles on overdose prevention, addiction, drug user health and harm reduction issues, injecting information, info on all the drugs we're using like opiates, stimulants like cocaine, crack and of course, hallucinagens: what we are using, how we are using it - ways to keep yourself informed, making safer decisions about your drug use."
	Bolton User Group Service (BUGS) "The Bolton User Group Service (BUGS) aim to raise awareness and understanding of the way in which substance misuse is treated in Bolton and the surrounding area... Though primarily concerned with Bolton & Greater Manchester, BUGS encourage input from National UK and worldwide sources. BUGS forums enable anyone to express opinions and debate issues regarding the way in which substance misuse treatment is practiced"
	CodeineFree "We are a small self-help group set up and run by people who understand the effects of Codeine addiction first hand. Over The Counter (OTC) products containing Codeine include Co-Codamol, Solpadeine, Syndol, Panadol Ultra, Feminax and Nurofen Plus."
	DrugFAM "Supporting famililes, carers and friends affected by substance abuse. Our mission is to establish ourselves as a lifeline for families struggling with the nightmare of Addiction."
	Methadone Alliance "Supporting people receiving prescribed drugs for the treatment of drug dependency." Its aims include providing accurate information, advice, and support to people receiving prescribed drugs for the treatment of their drug dependency; establishing the right of people receiving treatment to be consulted about changes that concern them and to participate in the making of decisions relating to their care; lobbying for prescribing practices that are validated as 'evidence-based' by reputable scientific bodies; supporting 'drug-of-choice' prescribing regimes where these would clearly benefit the individual; promoting a harm-reduction approach to the treatment of drug use. NAMA (see below) is our USA affiliated organisation."
	PADA (Parents Against Drug Abuse) "We are an award winning national organisation that delivers support and services to the families of substance users across the country. We also operate a 24/7 National Helpline."
	SMART CJS "Our aim is to reduce the negative effects of substance misuse. We achieve this by providing a range of services that focus on supporting individuals, in making positive changes to their lives. Our belief is that if we can reduce the impact of substance misuse on individuals, we can reduce the destructive impact that these individuals might have on our communities."

	Battle Against Tranquillisers (BAT) BAT's aims are "To help those who are addicted to benzodiazepine tranquillisers and sleeping pills, and drugs with similar effects, and who wish to withdraw from them, to do so as comfortably as possible, and to help them to make the changes necessary in life after withdrawal; to educate and inform all those who may come across the problem of BZ etc. addiction, either personally or professionally, towards an understanding of the difficulties caused by the drugs' action and the compounding of these difficulties in withdrawal; and to influence services in their prescribing, managing and supporting of clients who take/want to withdraw from benzodiazepines and similar drugs."
	Doncaster Drug Hub A drug services information site for Doncaster and area by the Doncaster Drug Strategy Unit. It is a tool for all people needing help in Doncaster including professionals, carers and clients, and has information relating to all aspects of support for drug and alcohol misuse.
	Kent Drug and Alcohol Action Team A comprehensive site translated into 15 languages, including information, contacts, resources and publications relating to the Kent DAAT and addiction support in the Kent and Medway area.
	Leeds Addiction Unit (LAU) "Part of the National Health Service of England and Wales, Leeds Addiction Unit is a specialist unit of Leeds Community and Mental Health Services NHS Trust. Clinical services are core-funded by Leeds Health Authority, and the Unit serves the population of Leeds (circa. 700, 000). In addition to offering a range of treatment and intervention packages for the local community, the LAU provides a number of non-clinical services for a wider population."
	Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland Drug Action Team "Contains details of services in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland; and publications; information about the Drug Action Team - purpose, minutes of meetings, action plans; links to other relevant web sites; young people's area; Crime and Disorder and GP and shared care pages; feedback and comments"
	London Calling "This blog is for GPs and others working with substance misusers in the London, providing news, details of training and conferences and information. The blog will also provide details of future (and past) PANN meetings. The blog is moderated by the RCGP Substance Misuse Unit Regional Lead, Dr Matthew Young and the content is his opinion and not that of the RCGP!"
	South Devon Primary Care Addiction Service "The SDPCAS aims to provide drug treatment training for interested GPs; to support GPs with a liaison CPN and Specialist GP to enable them to treat appropriate addicts in primay care; to facilitate funding of drug addiction treatment within primary care using existing local development scheme."

	British Medical Journal "This site contains the full text of all articles published in the weekly BMJ from January 1994... we publish original scientific studies, review and educational articles, and papers commenting on the clinical, scientific, social, political, and economic factors affecting health."
	British Psychological Society Faculty of Addiction The faculty's aims are to: Foster effective psychological services and practise for people with addictions; raise awareness of psychological issues in addiction; provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of issues, experiences and findings in addiction work; facilitate communication and support among psychologists and other professionals working in this field; promote psychological research which enhances the lives of people affected by addictions; advise and influence relevant organisations and policy about the psychology of people affected by addiction issues; liaise with other professional bodies with similar professional interests; act as a source of expertise to the DCP on matters relating to addiction."
	Drug Dependence in Primary Care Teaching The Drug Dependence in Primary Care Teaching website has been developed with the aim of "teaching undergraduate medical students about drug dependence, in particular opioid dependence. Currently in Sheffield (our medical school), students are given the opportunity to visit our clinic (Primary Care Clinic for Drug Dependence) and the teaching material for such visits has been included on our site, along with online Forums, lecture notes etc."

	Action on Addiction "Action on Addiction is the only UK charity working across the addiction field in research, prevention, treatment, professional education and family support. Our treatment centres include Clouds House, Hope House and SHARP structured day programmes."
	e-GP "The e-GP provides an online e-learning resource for NHS General Practitioners and doctors undertaking specialty training for UK general practice, jointly developed by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LfH). The e-GP resource provides a programme of e-learning modules covering the RCGP curriculum. Each module is made up of reflective and interactive e-learning sessions that enhance GP training and support preparation for appraisal and revalidation."
	STRADA "Scottish Training on Drugs and Alcohol (STRADA) is Scotland's leading workforce development organisation; delivering a range of training, development and educational opportunities to those working in the field of substance misuse. The organisation is a partership between the University of Glasgow's Centre for Drug Misuse; The University's Department of Adult and Continuing Education; and DrugScope."
	The Training Effect "At The Training Effect we believe in delivering high quality, innovative training at competitive rates. 	Counselling Directory "The Counselling Directory is a support network of UK counsellors and psychotherapists, with information on their training and experience, areas of counselling covered, fees and contact details. This service is free, confidential and easy to use."
	Erowid "Erowid is a member-supported organization providing access to reliable, non-judgmental information about psychoactive plants and chemicals and related issues. We work with academic, medical, and experiential experts to develop and publish new resources, as well as to improve and increase access to already existing resources. We also strive to ensure that these resources are maintained and preserved as a historical record for the future."
	Hypnotherapy Directory "The purpose of the site is to provide the UK with a hypnotherapy support network, enabling those in distress to find a hypnotherapist close to them and appropriate for their needs. This is a free, confidential service that will provide those seeking support with all the information they need. Every hypnotherapist on the site who has submitted their profile has either sent a copy of their qualifications and insurance cover to us, or is registered with a professional body with recognised codes of ethics and practice, this way we can be assured of their professionalism."
	Mailbase "The Uk's major electronic mailing list service for research in Higher Education." Of the hundreds of subject areas covered, Mailbase has several relevant to researchers in substance use (including 'admin-health', 'drug-misuse-research', 'health-for-all',' social-policy', 'child-health', etc.). Mailbase can be used for queries and enquiries, informal discussion, posting research news, distributing publicity, and locating colleagues with similar specialist interests.
	Methadone on Facebook "A Facebook Fan Page for methadone. The intention is that we can collaborate with fellow Non Government Organisations (NGOs) to create a large group that will attract press attention and engage the public in the struggle around access to Opiate Substitution Treatment (OST) in many countries - Russian and Scotland being the most pertinent current examples."
	National Sports Medicine Institute of the UK "The National Sports Medicine Institute of the United Kingdom (NSMI) was established in 1992 to serve as the national focus for all those interested in or concerned with sports medicine. Through its teaching programme, publications, research projects and links with other organisations, the Institute promotes good medical practice in the treatment of athletes at all levels, including adequate preparation for events and the importance of a sound diet for optimum health and performance."

	Urban75 - Drugs "These pages aren't intended to be the definitive drugs information service, but as a straight talking, bullshit free resource for those interested in finding out more about drugs." This site also includes a comprehensive contacts list, plus sections on first aid and drugs laws.

International Resources

	Addiction Treatment Forum "Information, research and news for the addiction treatment field since 1992 . Addiction Treatment Forum reports on substance abuse and addiction therapies, research, news, and events of interest to both healthcare professionals and patients with a focus on methadone maintenance for opoid-addiction treatment."
	Centre for Drug Research (CEDRO) "The Centre for Drug Research ceased to exist as an independent drug research institution per january 2004 and proceeded to finnish ongoing projects and articles. Most of the CEDRO work (theoretical and epidemiological) is published on the CEDRO website. The CEDRO website also has many publications of which many translated to major languages on drug use careers, drug policy, and the politics of knowledge construction about drugs and its history. These articles are authored by former CEDRO staff or guest researchers, as by authors considerd intereresting. The website will remain maintained till at least 2007. Questions about visits or research opportunities will have to be turned down."
	DrugAlert.org DrugAlert.org is a comprehensive database featuring information and news alerts about potentially dangerous drugs currently on the market or previously available worldwide. The Web site is dedicated to keeping the public informed about drug recalls, side effects, and pending litigation associated with various drugs and their manufacturers.
	Drug & Alcohol Office The Government of Western Australia Drug & Alcohol Office web site was formed in January 2002. It encompasses "Next Step Specialist Drug & Alcohol Services", "Western Australia Drug Abuse Strategy Office (WADASO)", and "Public Health Division: Alcohol & Other Drugs Program" web sites.
	Drug Policy Alliance (Formerly the Lindesmith Center) "The Drug Policy Alliance is a drug policy research institute. This site features a searchable database of thousands of library documents from both academic and popular literature focusing on drug policy from economic, criminal justice, and public health perspectives, and a subject index of full-text materials online. We also host an ongoing seminar series and send out mailings regarding upcoming events and publications via both e-mail and smail."
	Drug Reporter "The Drug Policy Web Site of the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union"
	DrugWatch.com "DrugWatch.com is a comprehensive web site database featuring extensive information about thousands of different medications and drugs currently on the market or previously available worldwide. DrugWatch.com includes up-to-date information about prescription and over-the-counter medications and includes details about associated side effects to aid in the protection of patients and consumers."
	ELISAD Gateway "The primary purpose of ELISAD (European Association of Libraries & Information Services on Alcohol & Other Drugs) is to enable those working in the field of alcohol and drugs information to exchange ideas, and experience in order to improve their knowledge and skills. The Elisad Gateway is a comprehensive tool which provides access to quality internet based addictions information for professionals and the general public. It is the only trans-European portal on addictions."
	European Opiate Addiction Treatment Association (EUROPAD) Their aims are to "Promote the development and acceptance of substitution therapy, encourage collaborative research into effective addiction treatment, provide a forum for the communication of research results and best practice, encourage contact between individuals and groups within treatment services, and co-operate in the development of effective public policy"
	Indiana Prevention Resource Center "A statewide clearinghouse for prevention, technical assistance and information about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs." This site includes useful surveys, reports and references under headings such as 'Prevention', 'Drug Info', 'Statistics', and 'Resources'. Many useful links, including some to drug image databases.
	International Doctors for Healthy Drug Policies (IDHDP) "International Doctors for Healthy Drug Policies (IDHDP) network is for medical doctors to share expertise and good practice in reducing the health, social and economic harms of people who use drugs and, with them at the center, create dialogue and influence practice and drug policy."
	International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) "We are a global network of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and professional networks that come together to promote objective and open debate on drug policy issues at the national and international level. We support evidence-based policies that are effective in reducing drug-related harm."

	The Mount Sinai Journal of Medicine "The Mount Sinai Journal of Medicine is a general medical publication with a worldwide circulation. The publication was established in 1934 by The Mount Sinai Hospital and has been published continuously since then. It is issued six times a year. 	National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) "NIDA was established in 1974, and in October 1992 it became part of the National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Resources. The Institute is organized into divisions and offices, each of which plays an important role in programs of drug abuse research." 	The Vienna Declaration "The Vienna Declaration is a statement seeking to improve community health and safety by calling for the incorporation of scientific evidence into illicit drug policies. The declaration was drafted by a team of international experts and initiated by several of the world's leading HIV and drug policy scientific bodies: the International AIDS Society, the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, and the International Centre for Science in Drug Policy (ICSDP). It was prepared through an extensive consultative process involving global leaders in medicine, public policy and public health. The declaration was the official declaration of the XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010) held in Vienna, Austria."
