We are delighted to hold the 16th National Conference at the Harrogate International Centre. The conference is the largest event in the UK for GPs, shared care workers, drug users, nurses and other primary care staff, specialists, commissioners and researchers interested in, and involved with the management of drug users in primary care.

Building on the success of past conferences, this long-running event returns once again to examine the critical role primary care plays in working with drug users, their families and carers.

Conference topics will include interesting debates on issues facing drug and alcohol users and GPs such as how to deliver high quality treatment, and what is best practice?

What this year's delegates said:

  • "I feel charged up again after becoming a bit disillusioned lately with the way policy and services have been going, but that's just my opinion. The harm reduction battle must be hammered home and defended. I believe that the whole value for money slant should be made more of as this is what politicians understand if nothing else. Many thanks to all of you, it's been a privilege to attend."
  • "Overall the conference covered some important and interesting issues. A) abstinence/recovery and harm minimisation debates. B) social inclusion/inequalities C) models of addiction."
  • "I always enjoy the conference and it influences changes in my working practice."
  • "I always like the range of topics and the practical ëhow to do it' management day to day, as well as more philosophical aspects of the field. The range of people attending and speaking is good. Always well organised."

Presentations and other documents from the highly successful 2010 RCGP Conference are available in the Past Reports & Presentations area, together with those from all previous RCGP conferences.
